Then by the exponent sum rule [tex]x^{\frac{1}{2}}*x^{\frac{1}{4}}=x^{\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{4}}=x^{\frac{3}{4}}[/tex] (more straightforward, you probably know this from class).
I assume this is what you mean by rational exponent form. But you could also write it as [tex]\sqrt[4]{x^3}[/tex].
