Write an informative essay on the Great Chicago Fire. Your essay will use research to explain what caused the fire to burn out of control and to describe the fire's effects and aftermath. 50 Points ASAP

Answers

Answer:

City officials never determined the exact cause of the blaze, but the rapid spread of the fire due to a long drought in the prior summer, strong winds from the southwest, and the rapid destruction of the water pumping system explain the extensive damage of the mainly wooden city structures.the exact cause of the fire remains a mystery. ... Rain put out the fire more than a day later, but by then it had burned an area 4 miles long and 1 mile wide.

wrote this and got 100%

Explanation:

The Chicago fire of 1871 was one of the most devastating fires in US history. Many people believe that the fire started in the barn of Partick and Catherine O’Leary on the southwest side of the city, and it burned for 36 hours leaving people's homes and businesses destroyed. Many lives were lost causing a huge mix of emotions of devastation and sadness. What was the cause of the fire to grow so big and spiral out of control as it did?

The main things for a fire to start and sustain itself are fuel, oxygen and heat. Luckily for Chicago, they had all three of these ingredients. Since Chicago was built on a swamp, and other materials were too expensive, Chicago's infrastructure including its sidewalks and streets were made from wood. Because Chicago had experienced a long drought in their summer year the wood became dry, as a result it ended up serving as fuel for the fire. The surrounding area was full of houses that were close together, this helped the fire spread rapidly jumping from house to house.

At the time of the fire Chicago had strong winds coming from the southwest. Due to the sudden rise in heat the winds increased quickly. This could be seen in the novel The Great Fire when it states, “the stronger winds, the ones people remembered the best, were probably caused by rising consecutive heat” (Murphy 1). This made things so much worse for Chicago. Those winds carried out burning debris, which would later fall on top of the dry wood located in other areas. Those areas would soon also catch on fire. Making things worse than they already where firefighters at the time did not have the proper equipment to fight these fires and to top it all off, they were sent to the WRONG location. This whole entire catastrophe was the cause of the fire spreading quickly and uncontrollably.

After multiple hours of burning a fire would eventually come to a stop since there is flammable left. That’s exactly what happened with the Chicago fire. Open areas in the north end of the city helped stop the fire because there was simply nothing left to burn in that area. Fire fighters ended up using explosives as a last-minute recourse to blow up abandoned buildings and homes in the area to help stop the spread. Finally, it started to rain which helped the firefighters put out the fire entirely.

The after math of fire had left people devastated, heartbroken, and sad. Over 100,000 people were left without a home or a job. 300 people were estimated dead, 100,000 homes and 17,000 buildings including businesses were all destroyed. The damage fee came out to be 200 million dollars which would be around 4 billion dollars in today's money.

In November of 1871, Chicagoans had rebuilt their city and elected a mayor who would enforce stricter building and fire rules. Architectes came together to start building and designing the first skyscrapers. This resulted in people moving to Chicago to help out with the building process. The population had grown to have 500,000 citizens and a decade later the city was back to normal with over a million people.

What would happen if Dr grant was female in Jurassic park would the story be different?

Answers

Answer:

yes

Explanation:

it would change the whole movie if Dr grant was an female hope this help

If Dr. Grant were a woman, the story would be no different because she would be subjected to the same events.

We can arrive at this answer because:

Dr. Grant is a character from "Jurassic Park."He is a paleontologist and this profession is very important for him to be able to face the adventure with the dinosaurs. If he were a woman, the story would be the same, because that woman would also be a paleontologist who would have to survive amidst a park full of living dinosaurs.

Therefore, we can say that the story would only be modified if the events were modified and not the characters' gender.

We will not speak of the innumerable instances in which wasteful and idle men live upon the earnings of industrious wives. Nor shall we speak of situations in which wives leave their husbands, and take with them the children, to perform the double duty of mother and father. And after doing so, they are then followed from place to place, and threatened to be robbed of their children. These wives are accused of depriving the so-called rights of a husband. The husbands, claiming their rights, plant themselves in their poor lodgings, frighten them into paying tribute by taking from them the children, and run these overtasked women into debt. Such instances add up by scores within my own memory. I have seen the husband who had stained himself by a long course of low vice, till his wife was wearied from her heroic forgiveness. His treachery made any effort to forgive him useless. To be able to provide bread for herself and her children, she had to be separate from his ill fame. I have known this kind of man to install himself in the chamber of a woman who loathed him and say she should never take food without his company. I have known these kinds of men to steal their children, whom they knew they had no means to maintain, take them into corrupt company, and to expose them to bodily danger, just to assert their power over their wives. And these women, who alone have borne the pangs of birth, and nourished their infancy, are denied equal rights to parent and protect them. I do believe that this mode of kidnapping—and it is frequent enough in all classes of society—will be by the next age viewed as it is by Heaven now. I believe that the man who avails himself of the shelter of men's laws to steal from a mother her own children, or claim any superior right in them, save that of superior virtue, will bear the stigma he deserves. Just like the man who steals grown men from their motherland, their hopes, and their homes.

What does paragraph 1 suggest about Fuller?

She is scornful of women who repeatedly excuse their husbands’ immoral and criminal behavior.

She feels men abuse their power to control those without rights, such as women and enslaved persons.

Fuller is against the institution of marriage because it does not benefit women.

Fuller demands severe consequences for men who cannot financially support their families.

Answers

Answer:

i feel personally it is the second answer of the multiple choice. reason being is that the men who are described in the paragraphs abuse the power they have over women. they know these women dont have as much power over things that a man has, they know that they can take as much as they want from a woman without there being big consequences. in the paragraph it discusses how men threaten to take the children, women have no power over that being there is no equal rights. Men often leave the women in debt, which again women have no POWER over. so i feel it is "she feels men abuse their power to control those without rights, such as women and enslaved persons."

The essay body should express feelings, the taste, the sights and the sounds of the place. The author must describe the different aspects of the location for the reader to create an image in their head about what the place looks like. Apart from detailed descriptions the author needs to reflect about the place and make important connections to it. As well as using all these tips you actually have to use some facts so the reader actually learns something. When concluding your essay it is a good idea to write a final sentence that relates to the main part of your paper.

G. Wells [1898] But who shall dwell in these worlds if they be inhabited? Are we or they Lords of the World? And how are all things made for man? KEPLER (quoted in The Anatomy of Melancholy)BOOK ONE: THE COMING OF THE MARTIANS CHAPTER ONE: THE EVE OF THE WAR, excerptNo one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinised and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinise the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. With infinite complacency men went to and fro over this globe about their little affairs, serene in their assurance of their empire over matter. No one gave a thought to the older worlds of space as sources of human danger, or thought of them only to dismiss the idea of life upon them as impossible or improbable. It is curious to recall some of the mental habits of those departed days. At most terrestrial men fancied there might be other men upon Mars, perhaps inferior to themselves and ready to welcome a missionary enterprise. Yet across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us. And early in the twentieth century came the great disillusionment.Yet so vain is man, and so blinded by his vanity, that no writer, up to the very end of the nineteenth century, expressed any idea that intelligent life might have developed there far, or indeed at all, beyond its earthly level. Nor was it generally understood that since Mars is older than our earth, with scarcely a quarter of the superficial area and remoter from the sun, it necessarily follows that it is not only more distant from time's beginning but nearer its end.The secular cooling that must someday overtake our planet has already gone far indeed with our neighbour. Its physical condition is still largely a mystery, but we know now that even in its equatorial region the midday temperature barely approaches that of our coldest winter. Its air is much more attenuated than ours, its oceans have shrunk until they cover but a third of its surface, and as its slow seasons change huge snowcaps gather and melt about either pole and periodically inundate its temperate zones. That last stage of exhaustion, which to us is still incredibly remote, has become a present-day problem for the inhabitants of Mars. The immediate pressure of necessity has brightened their intellects, enlarged their powers, and hardened their hearts. And looking across space with instruments, and intelligences such as we have scarcely dreamed of, they see, at its nearest distance only 35,000,000 of miles sunward of them, a morning star of hope, our own warmer planet, green with vegetation and grey with water, with a cloudy atmosphere eloquent of fertility, with glimpses through its drifting cloud wisps of broad stretches of populous country and narrow, navy-crowded seas. And we men, the creatures who inhabit this earth, must be to them at least as alien and lowly as are the monkeys and lemurs to us. The intellectual side of man already admits that life is an incessant struggle for existence, and it would seem that this too is the belief of the minds upon Mars. Their world is far gone in its cooling and this world is still crowded with life, but crowded only with what they regard as inferior animals. To carry warfare sunward is, indeed, their only escape from the destruction that, generation after generation, creeps upon them. What does this line tell you about men in the last years of the nineteenth century? With infinite complacency men went to and fro over this globe about their little affairs, serene in their assurance of their empire over matter.
